Position Overview
The Benefits Assistant supports the administration of municipal health, dental, vision, and life insurance programs for member communities. This position works closely with the Executive Director and benefits administration team to assist with enrollment processing, member communication, billing support, wellness initiatives, and general office operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Process employee and dependent insurance enrollments, changes, and eligibility updates
- Communicate with member municipalities and insurance carriers to resolve enrollment and billing issues
- Maintain accurate records, logs, and confidential insurance files
- Assist with monthly invoicing, payment tracking, and reconciliation
- Support Medicare, COBRA, and dependent eligibility administration
- Assist with wellness programs, health fairs, and special projects
- Perform general administrative duties including filing, scanning, correspondence, and office support
- Attend occasional offsite meetings and travel locally as needed
Qualifications
- Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
- Ability to handle confidential information and work independently
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard office systems
- Experience with insurance administration, billing, or municipal benefits preferred
- Knowledge of HIPAA, COBRA, and employee benefits regulations is helpful
