Job Description

The town of Wakefield is hiring a Benefits Coordinator to serve as the primary point of contact for town and school employees and retirees on benefits enrollment, insurance, and leave administration. Reporting to the Assistant Town Administrator for Human Resources and Constituent Services, this position leads annual open enrollment, administers Workers’ Compensation and FMLA claims, manages COBRA and health reimbursement accounts, and coordinates Medicare enrollment for the town’s retiree population. The role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment with confidential information, and the ability to guide employees and retirees through complex benefits decisions with professionalism and care.

Associate degree in human resources management, accounting, or a related field, with three to five years of benefits administration experience preferred; municipal experience and familiarity with the GIC and Munis strongly preferred; advanced Microsoft Office proficiency and a valid driver’s license required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Pay: Non-Union Grade 11, $69,872.30 – $87,437.85 annually; anticipated hiring range Step 1–3 ($69,872.30 – $75,720.65).
