South Portland, a forward thinking, well-run city of 25,000 on scenic Casco Bay in southern Maine, seeks a City Clerk to support City Council, oversee the office, and lead in serving our community.

The City Clerk is appointed by the City Council. Key responsibilities include elections, vital records, and business licensing. Requires versatility, accuracy, and excellent customer service skills. Attends council meetings and prepares minutes. Perform with integrity, ethics, accountability, and professionalism.

This FT salaried position has a 37.5-hour week Monday-Thursday, with the option to work Friday remote or in-office flextime. Must have flexibility to work additional hours for elections and in other occasional circumstances.

Education/experience: associate’s degree, a minimum of five years of city/town clerk experience, or an equivalent combination. Have a certified clerk of Maine (CCM), certified municipal clerk (CMC), or obtain within three years of hire. Notary public and dedimus justice within one year of hire.
