POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Permitting and Land Use is a senior leadership role that is responsible for guiding Chelsea’s long-term growth and development. The position oversees the operations and coordination of the Conservation, Commission, Historical Commission, Planning Board, and Zoning Board of Appeals, ensuring alignment with citywide land use and zoning goals. The Director is responsible for leading complex permitting and regulatory efforts, managing environmental and historical planning initiatives, and provides strategic direction on development issues shaping the city’s built environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:
● Sets up for and manages all meetings for the Conservation Commission, Historical Commission, Planning Board, and Zoning Board of Appeals. This includes but is not limited to posting legal notices and agendas, distributing meeting materials, booking meeting rooms, taking minutes, scheduling applicants to appear, working with the recording staff to record statutory filing obligations, advising the board members, etc.
● Works with applicants, developers, and the general public to familiarize them with the
permitting process.
● Review development proposals and zoning applications for thoroughness and compliance with local regulations. Report to the boards/commissions on the findings of the review.
