Ayer is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Mechanic for the Department of Public Works – Highway Division. The Highway Ddvision is responsible for maintaining approximately 50 miles of roads, mowing public areas, snow removal, and maintaining stormwater systems. This position is primarily responsible for maintenance and repair work on gasoline and diesel vehicles, trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes and other DPW equipment.
Desired qualifications include a high school education supplemented by one year of technical or vocational training as a mechanic; five years’ experience as a mechanic performing gasoline, diesel and hydraulic repair work; however, any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. The following licenses shall be possessed or obtained during a probationary period: CDL B, Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer’s License, and 4G Hoisting/Flailing. Ayer offers reimbursement of license-related fees.
Rate of pay up to $34.99 per hour (includes license increments of $1.90 per hour). Overtime pay available. Stipends included for boots and clothing. Regular work hours 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Winter) and 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Summer).
