The Avon Fire Department seeks qualified applicants for a full-time Firefighter/Paramedic position. The successful candidate will work an average 42-hour work week over an eight-week cycle. Applicants must possess a high school diploma, a valid Massachusetts driver’s license, and a valid Massachusetts emergency medical technician’s certification. Candidates will be considered in the following order, those: 1) possessing a current Massachusetts paramedic certification, and as a condition of employment, will need to complete the full-time Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Recruit program within one year of hire; 2) enrolled in a paramedic program to be completed and certified to the paramedic level within one year of hire, and as a condition of employment, will need to complete the full-time Massachusetts Firefighting Academy program within one year of hire; 3) possess a basic EMT certification, complete the full-time Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Recruit program within one year of hire and be certified as a paramedic within two years of hire. Compensation depending on qualifications, inclusive of base wages, holiday pay, and paramedic stipend up to $79,000 with comprehensive benefits package. This is a union position covered by the Professional Firefighters of Avon L3857 CBA. Applicants will be subject to a comprehensive background check, physical examination, psychological screening, and drug testing. Successful completion of the Massachusetts Human Resources Division Physical Ability Test is required prior to employment.
