Job Description

The town of Wellesley seeks qualified applicants for the full-time position of Local Inspector within the Building Department. This position performs inspectional, plan review, and enforcement work in accordance with the Massachusetts State Building Code (780 CMR), M.G.L. c. 143, applicable Massachusetts Specialized Codes, and local zoning bylaws. The Local Inspector safeguards public health and safety through consistent application of state and local regulations. Certified applicants meeting requirements of the Board of Building Regulations and Standards (BBRS) are strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review permit applications and construction documents for code compliance
  • Conduct field inspections (residential and commercial)
  • Issue enforcement actions including Stop Work Orders and violation notices
  • Provide technical guidance to contractors, design professionals, and residents

Requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum five years of construction or inspection experience required
  • Massachusetts Building Inspector Certification
  • Construction Supervisor License (CSL) – Unrestricted

Applicants who are not currently certified must be eligible for certification and obtain required credentials within the timeframe mandated by BBRS regulations.

Salary range: $43.68 – $57.29, depending on qualifications.
