The city of Melrose department of Public Works is seeking a skilled Mechanic to maintain and repair a wide range of municipal fleet vehicles and heavy equipment. This full-time position plays an important role in keeping essential public works equipment safe, reliable, and operational for daily services and emergency response. Diagnoses, repairs, and performs preventative maintenance on gasoline and diesel trucks, heavy equipment, and related machinery. Inspects equipment to identify mechanical issues and ensures fleet tools, parts inventory, and maintenance records are properly maintained. Assists with seasonal equipment setup, emergency storm response, and operates welding, cutting, and other repair equipment as needed.
Qualified candidate has trade school training with three-plus years of experience (or five-plus years of relevant experience). ASE certification preferred. Must possess a valid Massachusetts CDL and obtain a Public Safety Hoisting License within 90 days.
