Operations Service Technician

Job Description

The Chelmsford Water District (District) is looking to fill the position of Operations Service Technician. The Operations Service Technician is a permanent full-time position and will work Monday through Friday and weekends on a rotating basis. This is a 40 hour per week position, with scheduled overtime and emergency call in. The wages will be commensurate with experience. The Operations Service Technician will be responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining, operating, or otherwise ensure the safe and efficient production and distribution of drinking water and fire protection. Position will also assist with meter reading operations as needed and once licensed, backflow testing.

The desirable candidate will have the following characteristics:

• High school diploma or
• Experience in drinking water industry construction and operation, but willing to train the right individual.
• Retain a valid driver’s
• Retain the following licenses, or ability to obtain within 12 to 18 months:
  1. Distribution License (D1).
  2. OSHA-10 hour in Construction Safety and Health and Hot works
• Licenses or characteristics which are considered a plus:
  1. Distribution D2 or D3 or
  2. CDL endorsement with air brakes (Class B).
  3. Valid hoisting license for operating an excavator (2A) or backhoe (2B) and similar license for forklift (1C).
  4. Preferred 30-minute or less drive of the District water district
  5. Backflow testing and survey
• Proficiency with the following software:
  1. Basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office or similar).
• Retains the oral and written communication skills necessary to complete receiving reports, work orders, and/or prepare reports.
• Be proficient in speaking and writing the English
