The town of Wakefield is hiring a Payroll Manager to process biweekly payroll for the town and public schools using the MUNIS accounting system, along with all related recordkeeping, reconciliation, and reporting. Reporting to the Town Accountant and working closely with Human Resources, this position resolves payroll and deduction discrepancies, maintains employee payroll records and accruals, prepares year-end reports and W-2s, computes retroactive and collective bargaining-related payments, and ensures compliance with town, state, and federal payroll requirements.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in accounting or a related field, with three to five years of experience in accounting, payroll, or bookkeeping required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Municipal payroll knowledge and prior MUNIS experience strongly preferred; advanced Microsoft 365 proficiency and a valid driver’s license required.
Pay: Non-Union Grade 12, $76,644.07 – $96,692.60 annually; anticipated hiring range Step 1–3 ($76,644.07 – $83,744.16).
