The town of Groveland is seeking a qualified Plumbing/Gas Inspector to perform inspections and enforcement related to plumbing and fuel gas installations in accordance with Massachusetts codes, town bylaws, and applicable laws and regulations. Responsibilities include reviewing applications and issuing permits, conducting inspections and investigations, maintaining inspection records, responding to complaints and unsafe conditions, and providing technical assistance to contractors, property owners, and the public. Candidates must have a high school diploma or vocational education and three to five years of practical experience in plumbing and/or gas construction, installation, maintenance, or inspection as a properly licensed plumber or gasfitter. Candidates must possess, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, the applicable Massachusetts certification or authorization required to serve as a municipal Plumbing/Gas Inspector. The position requires strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to interpret and enforce regulations, and the ability to perform field inspections, including climbing, bending, walking, and entering mechanical spaces.
The position is responsible for conducting inspections within established timeframes, maintaining accurate and timely records in the town’s permitting system, and responding to emergency calls as needed. The ability to travel to building sites is required.
