Principal Assessor
FLSA Exempt, Non-Union
FY27 Compensation: $105,877 – $140,579
- Perform complex professional, supervisory, administrative and technical work in appraising and assessing real and personal property, and managing the operations of the Assessor’s department; all other related work as required.
- Oversee daily Assessing Department operations and supervise staff
- Prepare valuations, assessments, budgets, and related reports for Board review
- Ensure compliance with Department of Revenue regulations and certification requirements
- Provide professional guidance on valuation methods, appeals, and exemptions
- Serve as liaison between the Board of Assessors and General Manager
- Administer contracts with outside appraisal firms and maintains department records and systems
- Manage personnel, including work assignments, staff development, hiring recommendations, and evaluations
Minimum Requirements*:
- Possess or obtain Massachusetts Accredited Assessor (MAA) Certification
- Complete Department of Revenue Course 101 and other required certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field; five years of experience in real and personal property tax administration or valuation; or any equivalent combination of education and experience
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
