Job Description

Town of Norwell seeks a highly motivated and talented Principal Assessor (MAA) who can create, plan, and direct the efficient and uniform administration of local tax laws and the Department of Revenue.

Salary range is $105,000 to $118, 000, DOQ + $2,000 annual MAAO stipend. Personal contract position. Excellent health insurance/paid time off benefits. Town Hall hours (37.5 + any required pm meetings). Fridays, 8 a.m.-Noon. Modern building/office with a pond view! Collaborative team atmosphere! Life/Work Balance!

Incumbent must have a strong understanding of Massachusetts General laws as they pertain to municipal assessing, Mass appraisal standards and procedures, motor vehicle excise tax commitments, abatements, exemptions, and appellate tax hearings. Strong working knowledge of valuation methods, cyclicals, sales, field inspections and supplemental billing is required. MA Appellate experience desired. Must have superior technical, analytical, negotiation and written/verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex matters in a tactful and courteous manner to residents, both in person and using all available media sources. Associates or higher degree in related field with five to seven years of increasingly responsible, related and supervisory experience desired. Any combination of education and experience may be considered. Required to be certified as a Massachusetts Accredited Assessor and possess a current MA Driver’s license.
