The town of Wellesley department of Public Works seeks a Superintendent for the Park and Tree division to lead staff for town parks, public trees, and conservation lands. This role supports environmental, aesthetic, and operational objectives with DPW and the Natural Resources Commission.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee maintenance and improvement of parks, conservation lands, recreation and water areas, open spaces, and trees; Snow and Ice Control
• Plan, design, and maintain landscapes and public spaces to Town policies
• Recruit, train, and supervise employees maintaining parks, school grounds, recreation areas, and shade trees
• Advise boards, departments, and the public; review development and civic improvement plans
• Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, policies, permits, licenses
• Serve as Arborist; Public Tree Removal Hearings; Deputy Tree Warden
• Prepare and manage capital budgets
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent
• Five years arboriculture/landscape management; Certified Arborist or Certified Landscape Professional
• Five years management/project management; two years winter operations
• Hazard tree identification; ability to develop, draw, and present designs
• Valid Class D Massachusetts Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications:
• MCA/ISA Certified Arborist; MCLP; CPSI; Landscape Design certificate; lake management
Salary range: $110,160 – $148,716 DOQ, with municipal benefits.
