The city of Watertown seeks a talented individual to join our Department of Public Works (DPW) as the Supervisor of Traffic Control.

This position is responsible for the skilled and technical work in the operation of equipment related to street striping, traffic signs, traffic signals and street light maintenance under the general direction of the Superintendent of Public Works and City Engineer. This position will also supervise two staff members.

Minimum qualifications: associate’s degree in related field or equivalent specialized training; seven to 10 years of experience in a related field or combination of education and experience. Knowledge of the requirements for work zone traffic control in roadway construction and maintenance operations. Sound understanding of safety standards. Knowledge of the role of traffic control devices in the effort to create and maintain a safe and efficient transportation system. Ability to design and fabricate traffic control signs and to plan, organize and direct work for traffic maintenance seasonal employees.

Additional requirements: Massachusetts CDL, Class B license required, with a good driving record. Air brakes endorsement required. Overnight surveys will be a requirement of the job.

Salary and benefits: this is a union position. The hiring range is $82,741 to $101,764 DOQ. Step 1 of this salary will increase to $107,979 effective July 1.
