Job Description

The city of Amesbury is seeking a qualified Sustainability and Conservation Planner to oversee compliance and enforcement of the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and the city’s Wetland Protection Ordinance.

The position reviews Conservation Commission filings, prepares staff reports, monitors approved projects, maintains records, and provides technical guidance on wetlands and floodplain matters. The Planner serves as a resource to city officials, residents, applicants, consultants, and regulatory agencies; attends public meetings; supports conservation and sustainability planning; and serves as the city’s floodplain regulator. The position also supervises the part-time Energy Manager.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or advanced training in environmental science or a related field and at least five years of experience in wetlands protection, land conservation, environmental management, or a related field. Strong knowledge of wetlands regulations and science, environmental sustainability, and conservation practices is required. A Massachusetts Class D driver’s license and readily available vehicle are required.

The position includes office work, evening meetings, and occasional field work in wetlands, woods, and varying weather conditions.

Full time, 35 hour per week, excellent benefits

Salary: $75,000 – $90, 000 annually
