The town of Norton seeks a qualified, detail-oriented, and highly professional individual to assist with Town Clerk operations, election administration, municipal records, and confidential administrative support. Depending on qualifications and town needs, the position may be structured as temporary election assistance, temporary-to-permanent employment, or a permanent Town Clerk role. The anticipated compensation is $22 – $45 per hour.
The successful candidate will support the Town Clerk’s Office and Town Manager’s Office with duties involving elections, voter registration, Town Meeting preparation, public records, vital records, licensing, census functions, document management, and other confidential municipal administrative work. Massachusetts municipal election experience is strongly preferred. Prior experience as a Town Clerk, Assistant Town Clerk, election worker, municipal administrator, or similar public-sector professional is highly desirable. Retired or former Massachusetts Town Clerks and Assistant Town Clerks are encouraged to apply.
This position requires excellent judgment, confidentiality, customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage deadlines in a public-facing municipal office. Experience with Massachusetts election procedures, CVRS, Poll Pads or similar election technology, public records, vital records, and municipal office systems is preferred.
The position reports to the Town Manager or designee and may involve evening hours, Town Meeting attendance, and extended hours during election periods. The position is confidential in nature and may involve access to restricted records, personnel-related information, executive office matters, and sensitive municipal operations.
Compensation and employment status will be commensurate with qualifications and the final structure of the position.
