Chatham, Massachusetts (6,594 population, increasing to over 30,000 in summer), is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic professional to become its next Town Planner. Under the administrative direction of the Director of Community Development, the Town Planner coordinates, implements, and manages the town’s planning actions to balance growth and development, with a strong focus on the preservation of community character and coastal resources. The Town Planner conducts technical research of Massachusetts law and local general and protective zoning bylaws; interprets, evaluates, and presents findings to management, local boards and commissions; prepares reports, analysis, and decisions for land use regulatory boards/commissions. The Town Planner provides assistance and support to the Planning Board and may work with staff liaisons to other town boards and departments. The ideal candidate is able to engage and communicate, has superior presentation and communication skills, and the ability to interact with the public in a professional manner.

The successful candidate should have a master’s degree in planning or related field and three to five years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of the Mass. Zoning Act, Mass. Community Preservation Act, and related local, state, and federal laws and regulations is required. AICP certification desirable but not required. ADA/AA/EOE

Annual salary: $100,000+/- DOQ.
