Under the appointment of the Town Manager, the Town Planner/Economic Development Director oversees land-use planning in the town. Provides assistance to the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals and Conservation Commission for the development and implementation of programs, policies and bylaws. This includes responsible development of proposals, managing subsidized housing inventory, acquisition and conservation of land, grant writing, and advising various boards and commissions on land use and zoning matters. This position requires sound initiative, judgement, and ability to work effectively and independently with the public and other officials. The Town Planner will also be responsible for frequent interaction with business owners and is responsible for fostering business development and retention in accordance with the town’s planning documents.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of planning, public administration, or land use required (master’s degree preferred).
  • Three years of increasingly responsible related experience in Massachusetts land use planning.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

This FT, 35 hour/week, position is benefits eligible and is included in the town’s SEIU Mid Management Union. Tyngsborough works a four-day work week with one late night (Wednesday until 7 p.m.) and the office is closed on Friday’s.
