Treasurer/Collector

Job Description

Under the direction of the CAO, the Treasurer/Collector is responsible for the administration, management, and oversight of the city’s municipal treasury and tax collection operations. This position serves as the city’s chief custodian of municipal funds and is responsible for the proper receipt, custody, investment, disbursement, and accounting of municipal monies in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, municipal bylaws, policies, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable governmental accounting standards.

The Treasurer/Collector oversees the collection of real estate and personal property taxes, motor vehicle excise taxes, municipal charges, utility and other receivables, and other revenues due the city. The position works closely with the Mayor, City Auditor, Chief Financial Officer, Assessor, department heads, banks, investment advisors, bond counsel, state agencies, and other municipal officials to ensure the city’s financial operations are conducted accurately, efficiently, transparently, and in compliance with applicable law.
