The city of Newburyport is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Wastewater Treatment Facility Pretreatment Coordinator. This full-time position is responsible for enforcing federal, state, and local pretreatment regulations to protect the city’s wastewater collection and treatment systems. Duties include conducting inspections, ensuring compliance through education and enforcement, monitoring industrial discharges, performing Grade IV wastewater treatment operations, manual labor, and operating CDL vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and five years of advanced training and/or experience in wastewater treatment plant systems or industrial treatment processes, plus heavy vehicle operation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess and maintain a Massachusetts Grade VI Wastewater Treatment Operator License, a valid CDL Class B license with air brakes endorsement, and comply with CDL drug testing requirements.
This is a full-time, 40-hour/week AFSCME Union position, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.–3 p.m., with required overtime. Starting hourly rate: $33.14–$39.01, based on contractual step placement. Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment physical, reference check, and CORI check.
