The town of Amherst is seeking a qualified candidate to join our Water Division as a Water Treatment Operator I, II, or III. These positions play a critical role in protecting public health by operating, monitoring, maintaining, and repairing the town’s water treatment facilities and wells. Operators also assist with water distribution activities as needed and may serve as lead operators depending on staffing requirements.
Regular work schedules include one weekend day (Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday) based on operational needs. Occasional overtime, emergency call-back, weekend, and after-hours work may be required. These positions are designated as essential personnel.
The town is willing to train the right candidate. Candidates who do not have the required water treatment license at the time of hire may be hired as an Operator-in-Training and compensated accordingly until the required license is obtained. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining required license within the first year of employment.

Water Treatment Operator I ($26.43 – $34.47 per hour)
Water Treatment Operator II ($28.43 – $37.10 per hour)
Wastewater Treatment Operator III ($29.43 – $38.40 per hour)
