The two U.S. senators from Massachusetts, Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, along with Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, will address local leaders from across the state during the MMA’s annual conference, Connect 351.

Mayor Wu will welcome attendees to Boston and offer brief remarks during the general session on Friday, Jan. 23, and the senators will speak during the MMA Annual Business Meeting on Saturday, Jan. 24.

Sens. Warren and Markey have consistently attended the MMA conference to engage with municipal leaders, and have worked closely with the MMA and local officials throughout their time in Congress.

Warren, who was first elected to the Senate in 2012, is vice-chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus and has focused on economic opportunity, consumer protection, and health care during her time in the Senate. A former professor at Harvard Law School, Warren served as a special advisor for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and chaired the Congressional Oversight Panel that administered the Economic Emergency Stabilization Act.

Markey has served in public office for five decades, first as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, then as a U.S. representative (1976 to 2013) and as a Senator since 2013. Markey has focused on environmental protection, energy, transportation, infrastructure, public safety, and education. He has been one of the foremost Congressional leaders on the issue of climate change.

Mayor Wu was elected mayor of Boston in 2021 and was re-elected this past November. She previously served as a city councillor for eight years. She has focused on sustainability, housing and development, education, and public transit as key priorities during her tenure as mayor.

Wu is the second vice president of the Massachusetts Mayors’ Association and a member of the MMA Board of Directors.
