The Healey-Driscoll administration on Aug. 12 announced $225,450 in grants to five rural communities and two conservation and development organizations in western Massachusetts to protect forests, improve outdoor recreation, and strengthen the local economies that depend on the region’s natural resources.
The grants, awarded through the Woodlands Partnership Program and administered by the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, support locally led conservation and economic development projects to expand forest access, restore and maintain woodlands, improve trails and infrastructure, and develop long-term planning.
Supporting rural communities supports the whole Commonwealth, Gov. Maura Healey said in a prepared statement.
“Through the Woodlands Partnership, we’re giving communities the resources to invest in their future and build on the incredible natural assets that make Western Massachusetts such a great place to call home,” said Healey.
The following municipalities and organizations received funding amounts of between $12,950 and $75,000: Deerfield River Watershed Association, Franklin Land Trust, Leyden, Rowe, Peru, Williamstown, and Windsor.
