The Department of Fish and Game’s Division of Ecological Restoration on Aug. 31 announced support for Tidal Restoration Preliminary Field Investigations in three municipalities: Somerset, Swansea and Rehoboth.
The studies will help communities address future flooding and restore wildlife habitat by identifying opportunities to restore coastal wetlands through removing barriers to tidal flow.
Healthy coastal wetlands increase flood resilience and support water quality improvement and local wildlife, said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rebecca Tepper in a prepared statement.
“These studies will help identify opportunities to restore these important ecosystems while strengthening the state’s resilience to climate change,” she said.
The Division of Ecological Restoration will support Tidal Restoration Preliminary Field Investigations in Somerset, Swansea and Rehoboth to gather critical information about restoration opportunities in the Narragansett Bay Estuary Region of Massachusetts, where data is limited.
