POSITION: FIRE CHIEF (Full-time with excellent benefits)
SALARY: Salary Range up to $122,952
SUMMARY: The town of Hampstead, NH (pop: 9,000 with a response district size of 14.1 square miles) is seeking a qualified professional to lead its Fire, Rescue, and EMS department. Hampstead, NH is a quaint community located in Rockingham County and operates with a Select Board, SB 2 form of government.
The department is responsible for emergency services including fire suppression operations, emergency medical services, hazardous material incidents, technical rescue response, and risk management reduction services, including community relations. The department operates from a recently renovated central fire station. The department’s staffing model utilizes full-time firefighters, per diem firefighters, per diem Paramedics, and a small contingent of call firefighters. The department is in its first year of a fire-based ambulance service (which includes the town of Sandown) and the staffing model allows for five personnel on duty 24/7. There are four groups that work a rotating average 42-hour workweek. Including in this staffing is a recently awarded SAFER grant. Therefore, grant management experience is desired.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to be hired in the state of NH compliant with the Chapter Fire 700 Mandatory Standards for Appointment to Full-Time Career Fire Service personnel (CPAT of lateral transfer) or qualify for a waiver through the Fire Standards and Training commission (must be applied for in the first 30 days of employment). Must successfully pass NFPA 1582 physical exam and department background investigation.
Must have experience with a fire-based EMS system at the paramedic level.
Bachelor’s degree in fire, public administration, management, or related area from an accredited college or university is preferred. 10 years of experience in fire service and supervision of firefighting and emergency medical personnel, with five years of progressive leadership of a division or department or any equivalent combination of experience and education which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Leadership and management skills to include excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of EMS/Fireground/Incident Command Systems. Experience working with a unionized workforce, including collective bargaining and dispute resolution processes.
Must have a valid driver’s license, FF II Pro Board Certification, National Registered Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or a greater EMS level.
