Job Description

The town of Avon seeks qualified candidates for the position of Finance Director. Duties include providing professional administrative, supervisory and technical work in connection with the receipt, expenditure, investment and custody of municipal funds. Manages the town’s debt service including the issuance of bonds, financial forecasting and town’s risk management program, the custody of tax title properties and collection of money due to the Town as defined by Mass. General Laws. The Finance Director is responsible for providing administrative direction, control, coaching, and mentorship of the Finance department, which consists of the offices of Accounting, Assessing, and Treasurer/Tax Collector.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, public administration or related work with a minimum of five years of experience; at least two-plus years in municipal accounting preferred. Must have MA Treasurer’s Certification and MA Collector’s Certification. Must be bondable.

The work week is 35 hours per week in accordance with the operating hours of town hall. The starting salary range is $108,000 – $115,000. This is a full-time, non-union position with benefits.
