Our members are the local governments of Massachusetts and their elected and appointed leadership.
The Assistant Town Engineer supervises the construction of public works and utility projects from the preparation of review of plans and specifications to inspection of completed work to ongoing monitoring and observation of the efficacy of the infrastructure systems in place.
Prepares and reviews bid documents for a variety of construction and public works projects; analyze and
prepare bid tabulations; recommend bid award; administers contracts.
Manages and approves engineered plans for town projects; manages the administration of major town
construction projects.
Coordinates and reviews the work performed by field inspectors.
Assists in preparing documents for public works related grants and MassDOT Chapter 90.
Provides engineering guidance to residents, other departments, Town boards and committees. Reviews
subdivision plans and zoning board requests.
Plans and designs street improvements, bridges, water and sewer lines and other public works projects;
manages, inspects and directs construction.
Assures projects are completed in compliance with applicable codes, specifications, standards, time schedules and budgets.
Supervises the town’s annual highway and sidewalk construction program in addition to updating the
existing program annually.
Analyzes and creates invoices for industrial wastewater users.
Analyzes industrial treatment data supplied by the adjoining municipality which provides treatment service
for sanitary sewerage discharges emanating from West Springfield.
