The Town of Falmouth seeks a full-time Assistant DPW Mechanic to support the department of Public Works Fleet Services Division by performing skilled maintenance and repair work on heavy equipment, town trucks, and town vehicles. This is a full-time, benefited position that works 40 hours per week year-round, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Occasional after-hours work, including weekend work, is required on an overtime basis. Overtime worked between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m. is compensated at double-time. The town provides all required tools and equipment, including safety gear and equipment, and is pleased to provide a safe, stable, professional, and team-oriented work environment with comprehensive benefits.
Minimum Requirements: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, specialized training in mechanic and automotive repair work, and a minimum of three years of experience in maintenance and repair of varied equipment used in public works operations, including welding and the operation of specialized and heavy equipment; or any equivalent combination of education, training or experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
This position requires a Massachusetts Class A Commercial Driver’s License. However, the town is willing to provide training to the right candidate to help them obtain their CDL through our in-house CDL training program. The successful candidate must also have the ability to obtain OSHA-10 Certification within 180 days of hire and pass a pre-employment background check, physical, and drug screening test. Additional certification in equipment repair is preferred.
Expected Starting Range: Step 1 ($29.74/hour) – Step 6 ($36.19/hour), commensurate with qualifications and experience, with room to grow along the 9-step pay scale.
