Job Description

The Department of Fire Services is seeking an experienced Chief Mechanic to fill a new position at their Stow location. The Chief Public Safety Vehicle Mechanic will oversee a talented and skilled staff, providing guidance and expertise to ensure DFS vehicle operations and essential services operate smoothly.

The position will be responsible for oversight of repair and working conditions of a large fleet, including but not limited to fire apparatus, heavy duty emergency response trucks, trailers, front end loaders, backhoes, generators, pickup trucks and passenger vehicles. The position supervises and participates in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of engines, electrical and mechanical systems and structural components of vehicles; monitors the conditions of the vehicle service shop to troubleshoot environmental compliance and occupational safety; and performs administrative duties needed to schedule and track the progress of repair and maintenance activities, expenses, and parts and supply inventories for the fleet unit.
