The town of Athol, a resurgent community of 12,000 nestled along the Millers River in the scenic North Quabbin region, seeks a dynamic leader to serve as its next Chief of Police. The Chief shall direct and supervise all operations of the police department (20 sworn officers) including staffing, equipment and budgeting. The Chief is highly visible within the community while seeking to ensure protection of life and property, and the prevention and suppression of crime, as well as fostering cooperation with other town departments and external agencies.
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public safety or related field and five years’ of progressive command or supervisory experience in law enforcement. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position may be considered.
Valid driver’s license, LTC and certification through the Mass. Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission required. NIMS / ICS training preferred.
