The MMA will host a webinar on Dec. 9 on municipal communications during a snow emergency.

Provincetown Deputy Town Manager Dan Riviello will share lessons learned from Winter Storm Hernando, which left the town without power for four days in February 2026.

He will explore how clear, timely, and compassionate communication supports emergency operations, connects residents with assistance, and builds community trust.

Drawing on his experience, he will discuss:
• Keeping residents informed as conditions change, including communicating about power outages, shelter availability, and essential services
• Coordinating information across town departments and community partners to provide consistent, actionable updates
• Reaching older adults and residents with medical and other support needs, including those with limited access to digital communications
• Bringing empathy and a human voice to emergency messaging so residents feel informed, supported, and comfortable seeking help
• Applying lessons from a prolonged emergency to strengthen future communications and preparedness

Online registration is available for the 75-minute webinar, which will begin at noon. Only MMA members may register. MMA members include elected officials and municipal employees from MMA member communities across the state. Media members are not permitted to attend.
