The attorney general’s office has released draft regulations (940 CMR 33.00) governing the earned sick time law that was passed by voters last November.

The public comment period is open through June 10, with six public hearings scheduled from May 18 through June 5. Details can be found on the attorney general’s website.

The law entitles employees in Massachusetts to earn and use sick time according to certain conditions.

The law calls for the attorney general to promulgate regulations to explain employer and employee rights under the law, describe how employer size is calculated and when sick time must be paid, and identify the documents an employee must provide when using earned sick time.

The law does not apply to cities and towns unless accepted and funded at local option.
