Municipal officials and employees, along with members of the public, can learn more about the state’s open meeting law at a free training session offered by the Attorney General’s Office of Open Government in Boston on Oct. 11.
The training is being held in partnership with the Legislature’s Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate, and the MMA.
Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell said the open meeting law “is a critical tool for ensuring transparency in state and local government.”
“On behalf of cities and towns across the Commonwealth, we are proud to partner on this important training,” said MMA Executive Director Adam Chapdelaine. “This event presents a valuable and relevant educational opportunity for the thousands of dedicated local government employees in Massachusetts.”
Sen. Nick Collins and Rep. Antonio Cabral, co-chairs of the State Administration and Regulatory Oversight Committee and members of the Open Meeting Law Advisory Commission, said they hope the conversation will help their committee in its efforts to update the law going forward.
“It is important for everyone involved to understand their responsibilities,” Collins and Cabral said.
The training will be held at the Kennedy Institute, located at 210 Morrissey Boulevard (Columbia Point) in Boston, beginning at 6 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the first 100 participants will have access to a replica U.S. Senate seat.
To attend, RSVP online.
