Councillor Annissa Essaibi-George

Boston City Councillor Annissa Essaibi-George is one of eight recipients of the 2018 Navigator Award from Route Fifty, a digital news publication from Atlantic Media’s Government Executive Media Group.

The national Navigator Awards recognize innovators in state and local government for their leadership and success in helping to improve public service.

Essaibi-George earned the recognition for developing a pilot program focused on reducing homelessness and improving education outcomes for families in Boston. Working across the housing, education and health sectors, the pilot partnership housed 11 families in the first six months of the year, with a goal to house all 240 homeless students across 180 households by the end of the 2018-2019 school year.

A former Boston Public Schools high school teacher, small-business owner, and lifelong Boston resident, Essaibi-George was elected at-large to the council in November 2015 and re-elected in 2017.
