The Boston Firefighter's Credit Union has created a fund to help support the families of Lt. Edward Walsh and Firefighter Michael Kennedy, who were killed while battling a nine-alarm blaze in the city’s Back Bay neighborhood last Wednesday.

The deadly fire in a brownstone at 298 Beacon St. along the Charles River was fanned by high winds, making the work of firefighters very dangerous. Thirteen other firefighters were taken to the hospital for injuries.

“I watched the brave men and women of our fire department go into that building and retrieve their own, and since that time I’ve watch the entire fire department come together,” said Boston Mayor Martin Walsh, before urging people to donate to the fund.
