The Citizen Planner Training Collaborative has opened registration for its fall workshops.

Regional planning commissions around the state are sponsoring the 23 workshops from mid-October through early December. The collaborative holds the workshops for planners and for members of planning and zoning boards, and welcomes participants with varying amounts of experience.

The two-hour sessions cover topics such as special permits and variances, zoning amendments, revisions to rules and regulations, zoning with overlay districts, design review, fair housing, the drafting of fair and defensible decisions and planning with community support.

Many workshops offer AICP CM credit and/or count toward a CPTC Certificate. Many workshops also qualify for credits from MIIA to reduce municipal insurance premiums.

The collaborative says its workshops reduce the likelihood of litigation and improve a board’s decision-making process. A CPTC Certificate demonstrates the holder’s commitment to his or her community.

The workshops cost $35 each and are held in the evenings. People are encouraged to register early to secure their preferred times and locations.
