Municipal officials and state legislators are invited to these free meetings, which offer an informal opportunity to talk with area legislators, fellow municipal officials and MMA staff about key legislative initiatives and important issues facing communities.
The meetings will be held shortly after Gov. Charlie Baker files his fiscal 2018 state budget recommendation, and as the governor and Legislature continue work on the troubled fiscal 2017 budget. Legislative committee hearings on hundreds of bills filed for the new two-year legislative session will also begin this spring.
Discussions at the meetings are likely to range from Chapter 90 and other capital programs, to the new public records and marijuana laws, to the wide variety of legislative public policy issues affecting local government lined up for debate this year. City and town officials from every community are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to talk about local successes and challenges and to provide input on the MMA’s legislative priorities for the next two years.
A continental breakfast will be provided by the MMA at 8 a.m. Introductions will begin at 8:15, followed by presentations and Q&A. The meetings will end by 10 a.m.
Attendees are asked to contact their legislators and invite them to attend as well.
While meetings are free to attend, members are asked to pre-register.
