The goal of Massachusetts Municipal Management Association’s Women Leading Government initiative is to engage women who are in local government at all levels – staff, managers, department heads and town managers – by holding three events per year designed to promote networking and provide important tips and information on how women can be successful in local government.

This session will focus on marketing yourself to achieve and promote your success, dressing for success, and tips and advice on being a successful and effective professional female manager in the workplace, specifically in municipal government.

Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito will be the special guest speaker at 8 a.m.

Cheryl Lapriore, senior vice president, chief of staff and chief marketing officer for UMass Memorial Health Care Inc., and Jill Dagilis, executive director of the Worcester Community Action Council, will follow Lt. Gov. Polito.

The speakers each bring a unique perspective given their backgrounds in municipal government and nonprofit management.

Each of these women has achieved remarkable milestones in their careers, and they are role models for today’s women and tomorrow’s leaders at all levels of government. Together, they will deliver a powerful message to women, whether they are in the early stages of their careers in local government or at the top of the chain, regarding tips, techniques and advice for being an effective leader.

They will discuss their leadership skills, management styles, professional image, and the challenges they have faced throughout their careers.

The event will begin with a continental breakfast and registration at 7:30 a.m. A book club will wrap up the morning by 11:30 a.m. This month’s selection is “Wear This Toss That” by Amy Goodman.

The event provides an opportunity to meet other women in local government from across the Commonwealth.
