Gov. Deval Patrick has filed a special Chapter 90 bond bill that would enable the state to issue bonds to support a $200 million Chapter 90 allocation for fiscal 2012.

At this level, funding for local road and bridge projects would be $45 million higher than the allocation for fiscal 2011.

In his transmittal letter to the Legislature, the governor requested prompt action so that allocation notices could be sent to cities and towns by the April 1 notification date.

MMA staff have met with the House and Senate chairs of the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Transportation to urge timely action on the governor’s recommendation.

The governor first announced his plan to increase funding for Chapter 90 at the MMA Annual Meeting in January.
