Grants available for organic waste-to-energy projects

The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center is offering grants of up to $60,000 for municipalities and other public entities interested in planning or examining the feasibility of anaerobic digestion and other organic waste-to-energy projects.

The grants will be awarded on a rolling basis through the Clean Energy Center’s Commonwealth Organics-to-Energy program and will require a 5 percent cost share for the project.

Eligible applicants include municipalities that are customers of investor-owned electric distribution companies or have municipal electric departments and have joined the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust.

Regional planning authorities, solid-waste districts and recycling cooperatives, as well as state agencies, also are eligible for the grants.

The grants can be used for purposes including technical assistance for developing a request for proposal; promoting public engagement in the process; and conducting pre-feasibility studies.
