The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center is offering two types of grants related to organic waste disposal.
One grant program is for studying the feasibility of organic waste-to-energy projects, and the other is a technical studies/technical services grant for these projects. The feasibility grants can be for as much as $40,000, and the technical grant can be for as much as $60,000.
Regulations taking effect in October will prohibit any municipality or other entity that generates at least one ton of organic material from disposing of it at a landfill or in an incinerator.
Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis, according to Amy Barad, program director at the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, but applicants are encouraged to apply by the end of April.
Prospective applicants are asked to contact Barad at (617) 315-9310 to determine which type of grant would be most appropriate.
