The Assistant Director of Planning and Community Development is a professional role reporting to the Director of Planning and Community Development. The office supports the Planning Board, Conservation Commission, Historical Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Community Preservation Committee, and others as directed by the Mayor. The Assistant Director prepares and presents technical and professional work products and helps manage departmental operations. Key focus areas include community and economic development, long-range planning, zoning, site plan review, housing, and transportation. Errors may lead to service delays, monetary loss, legal issues, or negative public relations for the town of Braintree.
A master’s degree in community planning/urban planning or in a related field with a minimum of five years’ experience in a municipal planning position, comparable state/federal agency or private corporation in which the position was directly related to and required an equivalent skill set. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in community planning/urban planning or in a related field with a minimum of eight years’ experience in a planning position within a municipality, comparable state/federal agency or private corporation in which the position held was directly related to and required an equivalent skill set. AICP Certification preferred.
