Job Description

The town of Swansea is seeking a qualified and motivated Assistant Town Engineer to perform technical and administrative engineering work supporting public works and infrastructure projects. This position plays a key role in both office and field operations, including the design, review, cost estimating, inspection, and management of sewer and public works projects. Working closely with the DPW Director/Town Engineer, the Assistant Town Engineer’s primary responsibility is the daily oversight of the Swansea Sewer Collection System, including pump stations and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in civil engineering principles, sanitary sewer systems, roadway and drainage design, construction inspection, and field safety. Responsibilities include managing sewer permits, pretreatment programs, grease trap inspections, regulatory reporting, and assisting with operational and capital budgets. The position also supports roadway, sidewalk, stormwater, and utility projects through planning, design, surveying, GIS/CAD mapping, and construction oversight.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, three to five years of related experience, proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and HydroCAD, and strong communication and customer service skills. This role requires reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while coordinating with town staff, boards, and the public.
