The city of Pittsfield is seeking an experienced and highly skilled City Solicitor to lead all legal affairs of the city. Reporting to the Mayor, the Solicitor serves as chief legal counsel, providing advice to the Mayor, city departments, and City Council, while prosecuting and defending matters in state and federal courts.
This role oversees the city’s legal strategy, prepares and reviews contracts, ordinances, and policies, and ensures compliance with municipal, state, and federal law. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, exceptional judgment, and the ability to navigate complex legal challenges in a collaborative public sector environment.
Qualifications:
Juris doctor from an accredited law school
Licensed to practice in Massachusetts and federal courts
Ten-plus years of legal practice with significant municipal law experience
Expertise in civil litigation, land use, employment, and administrative law
Proven ability to advise senior officials and manage staff
Hiring Range: $112,000 – $135,000. Commensurate with experience.
Hours: Full-time, 35 hrs/week; some evening meetings required
