The city of Watertown seeks a Senior Planner to join the Planning and Zoning Division of the department of Community Development and Planning (CDP). This position supports and coordinates housing policy, implementation, and affordable housing initiatives. The position also supports current planning and development review, provides professional and technical review for housing, community development, land use, preservation, and zoning projects, and provides support to the Watertown Affordable Housing Trust, as well as various local and regional boards, commissions, and committees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field and four to six years’ experience; Masters Degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with Massachusetts planning and zoning laws including MGL Ch. 40A and 40B, and other funding opportunities and mechanisms like HOME program funding is preferred.
TERMS/HOURS: This is a union position with a 37.5-hour work week (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays: 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.).
SALARY: This position has a starting salary of $87,528 annually. Hiring above Step 1 is dependent upon qualifications and experience. The city offers an excellent benefit package which includes quality health insurance with an 80% city paid premium through the Group Insurance Commission (GIC) and much more.
