Job Description

The town of Brookline seeks a qualified Senior Public Health Inspector to perform inspectional and investigative work related to the enforcement of public health and environmental regulations. This position plays a key role in protecting community health through inspection, education, and enforcement activities.

Responsibilities include enforcing federal, state, and local health codes; inspecting and licensing food establishments, retail food stores, nursing homes, day care centers, and special events; investigating food-borne illness complaints; reviewing plans for new food establishments; and responding to complaints regarding unsanitary or unsafe living conditions, lead paint, asbestos, septic systems, pests, solid and hazardous waste, and other environmental health concerns. The position also conducts inspections of pools, camps, lodging houses, massage and body art establishments, and demolition projects, and initiates enforcement actions when necessary.

Bachelor’s degree in public health, environmental health science, or related field and two years of relevant experience required; or an equivalent combination. Must be eligible for Massachusetts Registered Sanitarian and hold required professional certifications and a valid MA driver’s license.

The town of Brookline offers a competitive salary scale of $39.16 – $41.13 hourly, and excellent benefits, including generous vacation and sick leave, comprehensive health plans, and participation in the state’s retirement system.
