Supervising Foreperson – Highway

Job Description

The town of Duxbury seeks a qualified Supervising Foreperson to join the Public Works – Highway Division. This full-time, benefit-eligible, union (non-exempt) role requires a minimum of 40 hours per week.

Position Summary:
The Supervising Foreperson oversees highway staff and daily operations, including the maintenance and repair of public lands, roads, and natural resources. Responsibilities include managing labor, materials, and equipment, and ensuring safety and efficiency.

Key Duties:

• Supervise and coordinate Highway division staff
• Support paving, snow/ice removal, and emergency response
• Maintain records (e.g., potholes, roadways)
• Manage inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies
• Train staff on safety and procedures
• Respond to emergencies, including overtime and call-backs

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Five-plus years in highway maintenance or related field
• Proficiency in roadway operations and equipment
• Valid MA driver’s license
• Valid Hoisting License (2B & 4E)
• CDL Class B required

Compensation:
$29.97–$38.87/hour, based on experience and an 8-step scale.
