Job Description

The town of Weymouth is currently accepting applications for a Town Clerk. Working under the general direction of the town council and in accordance with all applicable Massachusetts Laws, town ordinances and regulations. Performs a variety of responsible functions in accordance with state and federal statutes, town Ordinances, and office procedures, requiring the exercise of judgment and discretion in the interpretation and application of laws, regulations, and procedures. Represents to the public a functional area of the town on matters of procedure and policy, where perceptiveness is required to analyze circumstances in order to act appropriately. Most work involves extensive contact with the general public, State offices, and other town departments requiring excellent customer service skills. Most contacts are in person, by telephone or email and involve discussing routine and complex information. Responsible for the management and operation of the department. Plans, directs and controls the department’s functions and activities. Staffs and trains employees of the department. Ensures adequate coverage to meet customer needs. Serves as chair for the Board of License Commissioners, consisting of members of the Police, Fire, Building Inspection and Health departments.

To be considered candidates must possess the following qualifications: Bachelors degree in political science, business administration or similar degree and ten years of related experience, including supervisory experience and experience in working with the public; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Must be a State of Massachusetts Notary Public and Justice of the Peace. Certification as a Massachusetts Municipal Clerk preferred.
