Job Description

Nestled in the White Mountain National Forest, Waterville Valley, NH (pop. 710) is a close-knit year-round resort community centered around numerous outdoor recreational opportunities. Mountain snow sports, hockey in the winter to hiking, golf and tennis in the summer, causing the town’s population to inflate to 3,000-5,000 during peak periods. Conferences, weddings and other events also contribute to these population swells.

As a result, Waterville Valley possesses many of the functions commonly associated within a larger community. A full-time staff of 30 employees supports the following:

  • Town Hall Administrative Services
  • Full-time Public Safety Department – Police, Fire & EMS
  • Wastewater and Water treatment facilities
  • Full-time Recreation Department
  • Public Works Department – maintenance of roadways, buildings, grounds
  • Municipal Solid Waste Operation

Collectively these Departments are supported by an annual operating budget of nearly seven million dollars through taxation of a Town currently valued at over $750M.

The Town is actively planning multiple large scale infrastructure projects.

  • Engineering a State-of-the-Art Wastewater Treatment Facility ($100M) driven by one of the most stringent NPDES permits in the Nation
  • Assessing the space needs requirements in anticipation of building new Public Safety and Town Hall offices
  • Engineering the expansion of our public utility services and executing multiple road projects over the next several years

Waterville Valley is also anticipating significant commercial development projects in the coming years that will require collaboration between the Town and Stakeholders. This development may include a gondola connecting the Waterville Valley Town Square to a new Base Lodge at the Ski Resort, hotels, condominiums, restaurants, an adventure center, parking garages, and redevelopment of existing facilities.

Qualified candidates for this position will:

  • Have a minimum of five years of municipal management experience, a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred)
  • Possess familiarity with NH RSA’s with the ability to navigate the applicable regulatory environment
  • Be able to work collaboratively with the Select Board and the following State and Federal Agencies: NHDES, USFS, DRA and the EPA
  • Have experience working collaboratively with engineering firms, construction contractors and project managers on large, complex municipal projects
  • Have proven experience creating a positive work environment that promotes a healthy work-life balance
  • Have successfully prepared budgets and warrant articles for presentation and approval at annual Town Meetings
  • Have experience forming relationships and working with a highly educated and engaged community
